The Mustangs returned to Haertl Field at Charles Wright Academy for a second time this season. This match started very differently as the Mustangs found themselves down 4-0 at the 17 minute mark. Feeling the challenge of the competition, players knew they needed to dig deep to overcome the early deficit. At half time they rallied around the need to function as one team made of eleven players with a common goal. The Mustangs were not ready to concede and started the second half with renewed determination. They began connecting passes and building their attack. In the 46th minute, a Mustang defensive error led to the Tarriers fifth goal. Not being deterred, the Mustangs continued to press. Their effort was rewarded two minutes later when Yohan Choi scored the RCHS opening goal. This goal was enough to break the floodgates as the Mustangs scored five more unanswered goals in the following 20 minutes. Gregorio Gonzalez scored in the 54’, Yohan Choi’s corner kick in the 56’ was misplayed by the Tarriers defense resulting in an own goal, Dawit Yohanes converted a penalty kick in the 58’, followed by another Gonzalez goal in the 64’ and the game winner came in the 68’ when Dawit’s shot was going wide but Pong Juathes came streaking in at the far post to redirect the ball into the back of the net. During the final 12 minutes, the Mustang defense held strong and created several more offensive opportunities but the score held, Mustangs 6, Tarriers 5!
