The Mustangs played a road match today against the Kentwood Conquerers C-Team. The first half was a solid midfield battle that yielded only a couple of shots on goal with goalies and defensemen holding strong.
RCHS started the second half with sustained pressure that allowed Gregorio Gonzalez to score his first goal of the season giving the Mustangs a 1-0 lead in the 45th minute. Continued midfield dominance led by Dawit Yohanes, Min Chaipun and Gregorio Gonzalez gave way to another attack. This time a shot by Gonzales deflected off of a Kentwood defender and found it’s target in the Conks goal. Dawit Yohanes joined in on the scoring when Gregorio played a ball to him for a great finish. The Mustangs had a commanding 3-0 lead late in the game but the Conquerers weren’t ready to concede. They put the Mustang defense to the test and the Mustangs stood strong lead by Josh Ward in goal and central defenders Emilio Castaneda and CJ Thomas. Late in the match, KW was able to find the back of the net but the Mustangs fought to the end and held on for their first win of the season. Final score, Mustangs 3, Conquerers 1.
