Mustang Boys Soccer returned today in their first ever spring season competing with 1A, 2A and 3A schools. The Mustangs knew they had a tough match playing on the road at Charles Wright Academy. With spring break and no available subs, the coaches were on the verge of requesting a reschedule, but the players rallied their teammates and stepped up to play with the 11 that were available.
CWA opened the scoring 15 minutes into the match but the Mustangs did not hang their heads. They pressed hard and put 5 shots on frame including one that hit the post and another that went just over the crossbar. The CWA Terriers led at half 1-0.
The RCHS central midfielders controlled possession and created many opportunities in the second half. In the 65th minute, Dawit Yohanes followed in his shot and was able to score the equalizer when the CWA keeper lost control of the ball. With Joshua Ward in goal, making timely saves and directing the defense, they played the final 65 minutes of the match without conceding another goal.
The Mustangs finished their first match with a 1-1 draw!
